One month later...

I am back in New York now. Just got here on Thursday night. Good to be back, but California certainly is warm.

Football playoffs... very happy, very sad. They signal that the end of the season is near, and that seemingly endless period from January to August lasts much longer than the sum of its parts. Ah, football. Go 49ers. Woo.

Here's a fun story for you- in the airport terminal, I was approaching my departure gate. Over the terminal speakers, I heard a note progression in a song that sounded very familiar. I couldn't here it very well, but it sounded like a portion of the musical "Rent." I figured it wasn't, but as I sat down and was able to listen more closely, it turns out that they were playing a song from "Rent." And not a happy, good-spirited diddy about "Seasons of Love" but a song that is very much about dying of AIDS and the fear that nobody in the world will care when it happens. Not exactly cheery airport material. I laughed it off as an ignorant manager in charge of the music mix. The song that followed was one that I did not know, but it seemed harmless and airport-y. The following song... I still can't believe this... was the musical theme from "Schindler's List." Needless to say, this is in poor taste. Yes, it is a beautiful song. However, it's also linked to a film about the Holocaust... what are they thinking? It seemed so ridiculous to be pumping an airport terminal full of songs about death. I sat in my plastic-mold chair and had myself a hearty laugh at their expense.

More posts this semester, I promise. Lots more. Check back often. Is fun. Word.
