Holy Harriet Tubman, it's been a while since my last post. So much has happened I don't even know where to begin!
The show I was stage managing is over. It was truly wonderful-- it's also wonderful to be done with it.
I had my last final yesterday, so I am officially 100% done with the semester. Heading home early next week for the Christmas holiday.
Here's new video-game stuff--
Grand Theft Auto 3: One of the finest games I've ever played. I had no idea this type of game could be made, and they executed it perfectly. I never once thought "good concept, could have been better." It was absolutely wonderful, with a flair to challenge The Sopranos, and gameplay to challenge the best of 'em. The missions were excellent and well constructed, the pacing was superb, and the freedom one has in the gameworld is unparalleled. The graphics were a little sub-par with what I've come to expect from the PS2. The cutscenes were grotesque- but I'd much rather they concentrate on gameplay and let graphics suffer. This game is very violent, and very very fun.
Devil May Cry: we picked this up used from a friend of Jason's. This game is wonderful to look at! This game has extraordinary coolness! This game is fast and furious! This game is a blast to play!
THIS GAME HAS THE WORST CAMERA PLACEMENT I HAVE EVER SEEN IN A VIDEO-GAME. EVER. The camera is so fricking terrible that my room-mates and I find ourselves yelling at it constantly. Even though we've only been playing this for a couple of days, we find ourselves yelling simultaneously "Stupid frickin' camera!!!" (in the heat of the moment, sometimes we forget to use a nice word such as "frickin") It's not that I don't love being forced around a corner by enemies- fighting for my life- and having the camera remain stationary so all that I can see is the sound of my ass getting kicked- but I don't. Oo! And I love it when I'm fighting the giant enemies, and they completely obstruct my view of ME!!!!!!! And I especially love it when I'm running TOWARD the camera constantly, so that I never know where I'm going, only where I've been, in a sort of back-of-the-station-wagon way. If only this game weren't so cool, I could throw down the controller in disgust and walk away. As it is, I can throw down the controller in disgust, then pick it up again after a brief hissy fit and try again. Good stuff- but what the hell were they thinking? They could release Devil May Cry 2, have it be the exact same game but with better camera placement, and I'd buy it. Did anyone at Capcom ever play the game? It's the stuff of massive frustration.
In other news-- hated the Harry Potter movie. Thought it was crap. Made me want to read all the books again. Am doing so. Hope every kid in America follows suit.
Began reading "A Clockwork Orange" by Anthony Burgess. Not far enough for good review.
Watched "Ronin" DVD again last night. Lordy, that movie is awesome. All I can say is... "Nice..."
Zac wanted me to mention his name at least five times, as it would increase the hits to the site. Here it is: Zac Brown Zac Brown Zac Brown Zac Brown Zac Brown. To quote Fishburn- "There it is!"
Now that the semester's done, I'll try to make posts more frequent. I love you all. Except you... you know who I'm talking to.
