Here's something that doth piss me off.

I saw another car commercial today that featured footage of a car driving on the road.

Let's make this clear, it was driving on the road. On the correct side, apparently going to speed limit. I think its headlights were even on as a courtesy to other drivers. Though the windows were tinted, there is no reason to believe the driver did not have on at least one seatbelt.

OK, got it? Car driving legally down the road. Here's what the caption said:
PROFESSIONAL DRIVER. CLOSED COURSE. DO NOT ATTEMPT.

DO NOT ATTEMPT WHAT? DRIVING ON THE FUCKING ROAD?

This internet is a magical tool.

See the postcard for the show I'm in here.
A few sports related items that I felt we should discuss:

From an article in The Washington Post:
"Just before the national anthem [at Michael Jordan's final home game], Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld presented Jordan with an American flag that flew over the Pentagon on the one-year anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks."

I'm speechless. Michael Jordan did such a brave thing when he ran into the World Trade Center to carry people out as the buildings were collapsing. What a true American hero. I'm glad the Secretary of Defense found time in his busy schedule of bombing various countries in the Middle East to attend a fucking basketball game. "Liberating" countries sure takes it out of you, I'm glad he found a nice way to relax by honoring this man of the people.

I can't even explain how angry this makes me.

Here's another one, article from The San Francisco Chronicle:

Kansas basketball coach left Kansas to go coach at North Carolina, his alma mater. A fine decision, he's always said it's his dream job. Whatever, good for him.

Here's the problem: the incoming freshman that have already signed letters of intent to go to Kansas cannot change their mind. They would have to sit out a year of basketball.

That's really not just. The story in this article is so frustrating: David Padgett brought his final choice down to two schools-- Kansas and North Carolina. He selected Kansas to work with Roy Williams! Now he's signed the binding contract, the coach has gone to the other school, and he's stuck!

I have a problem that Williams promised this kid and his parents he'd be there for four years and bolted. That's not my biggest problem. If the coach leaves, under no circumstances shoul the incoming freshman class be required to keep their part of the bargain either. Let these kids go!

Sick and tired of watching good movies all the time?

Go watch Dreamcatcher instead!

It's so fucking terrible you'll forget that cinema is supposed to be made with skill!!

Seriously, the funniest movie I've seen in a loooong time. None of it, however, was intentional.

Damn, lots of posting today.

Anyway... Josh, I'm certain you already have, but I don't know about the rest of you-- READ THIS ESSAY by Richard Dawkins in The Guardian.
I know that when it happened, I didn't really understand it. It's something that fits into that odd category... events that I witnessed that I realize were important much later in life.

Then I sometimes feel angry at myself for being young or ignorant. The Berlin Wall coming down; the LA Riots; the first Gulf War; and, oddly enough, the World Trade Center on September 11th, 2001.

But it's affected me more and more every anniversary that passes.

Can you believe that he's been dead for nine years?
If you're feeling totally confused and frustrated about being good, don't read Nick Hornby's How To Be Good.

It's not that it's not well written-- it is. It's just that it's a well written book about feeling confused and frustrated about being good, and I'm getting enough of it in real life without help.

I do strongly recommend Hornby's About A Boy, however. It's fun, enjoyable, and ultimately uplifting. Much less frustrating than the other.

Last night, I looked through some old writing I have saved on my computer. This included some poetry I wrote in high school.

I nearly fell out of my chair, laughing.

Goodness gracious, it's funny.

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BAD.
