December 4, 2007

On this date in 771, King Carloman (It's a waffle! It's a journeyman! It's... Carloman?) died, leaving his brother Charlemagne to rule the Frankish kingdom. They were going for a kingdom that was wholly frank, but had to settle for one that was just frankish.

On this date in 1783, George Washington officially bade his officers farewell. He then ascended directly into the sky. Or returned home to Virginia. One of the two.

And on this date in 1881, the Los Angeles Times was first published. It is thought by many to still be in print today.
